The Rice Harvest

The air is filled with the pungently sweet aroma of fresh-cut rice these days.

Farmers harvest the rice with a small machine and hang the rice in bundles from drying racks. The rice is hulled in preparation for sale. The hulls are commonly used as mulch in many family gardens.

After the harvest the excess plant material is burned, filling the skies with smoke in rural areas.
